The first thing necessary in any operation is to assess the situation and then develop a strategy to implement the solutions. This is where the effort began here at Restore Appalachia.

Amanda Shiflett wanted to see how we could help, so she made a short assessment trip to see what was needed  and how to best assist our neighboring community at Newport, TN, which is only 45 mins east of us here in Sevierville. It seemed like a good idea to go ahead and take a load of supplies and drop them off, so Amanda partnered with Pastors Daniel & Priscilla Carmona, with Remnant Church in Dallas to buy and distribute supplies to those affected in Newport. This team from Texas was passing through and stopped for a few days here in Sevierville for some R&R, but just felt led to jump in and do something to help.

The drop-off location was very grateful, and pointed out that we  brought some things that others hadn't thought of such as first-aid kits, dry shampoo, and different (larger) sized diapers to name a few. We also took in toothpaste, toothbrushes, cleansing items, feminine products, deodorant, and wipes along with many other very needed things.

Clean-up efforts were already underway downtown, as the water has receded, but there is still so much to do. Please pray for this community, as well as so many others, as they recover from this terrible disaster, and also pray for us as we assist with this disaster recovery.
